- Reserves: Subset of stock, can be used with existing technology but their use has been postponed for future needs (e.g., forest reserves).

* Arid Soils: Red to brown color, sandy texture, saline. Lacks humus and moisture. Kankar layer at bottom inhibits water infiltration. Found in Rajasthan.
* Forest Soils: Loamy and silty in valley sides, coarse-grained in upper slopes. Acidic with low humus in snow-covered areas.
h. Soil Erosion and Conservation
- Causes of Soil Erosion: Deforestation, overgrazing, construction, mining, wind, glaciers, water.
- Types of Erosion:
