First, let's look at the basic building blocks: the sounds (phonetics) and their written forms (script). Sanskrit has a very organized sound system.

In Sanskrit, a noun (like "boy," "tree," "knowledge") doesn't just sit in a sentence; it actively tells you what it's doing or how it relates to other words by changing its ending. This change in ending is called declension, and each specific ending indicates a case (Vibhakti). English uses prepositions (like "to," "from," "with") to show these relationships, but Sanskrit bakes them right into the word itself.

In Sanskrit, actions are expressed through verbs, which are derived from basic roots called Dhatus. A Dhatu itself doesn't tell you who or when; it's just the core meaning. For example, the Dhatu gam means "to go."
